Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five in which he enjoyed playing different card games at a young age. He discovered himself getting really aggressive in these card games while competing against his father. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a little bit and moved away to New York to participate in some big-time chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were rough as he played extensive hours and don’t win most times. He made some extra money by being an runner for the poker players. He judged he could better his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He brought about an effort to acquire more sleep and focus attention even more on the game.

The definite improvement in his skills happened when he started betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable gamblers would frequently play against one another. He was able to access a number of the foremost minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard would hone his strategic thinking techniques. He applied these strategy ideas to the game of No-Limit texas hold’em.

Howard also helped his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie was a great student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper decision. He told Annie to head out to Sin City and play in the WSOP competition. She is one of the greatest female players the poker arena ever. Howard headed to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in money games for the next 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, he decided to participate in more tournaments.
