Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

He began competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
