Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 in which he enjoyed taking part in numerous card games at a young age. He found himself getting very aggressive in these particular card games as he was playing his dad. After finishing secondary school, Howard made a decision to put higher education on hold for a little while and headed to New York to compete in some big-time chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were tough as he would play many hours and lose most times. He made some additional money by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he might boost his game by adjusting his life away from poker. He made an effort to get more sleep and concentrate even more on the game.

The real improvement in his abilities began when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable players would regularly challenge each other. He had access into some of the foremost players in chess. With their help, he would tweak his strategic thinking techniques. Howard applied these strategic ideas to the game of NL texas hold’em.

Howard Lederer also assisted his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie was a great student of the game as she would always be asking questions about the right way to make the proper choice. Howard told Annie Duke to head out to Las Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the best women players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard Lederer relocated to Sin City in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in cash games for the successive decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
